A "Poe Mans Dream"

Smoke good, eat good, live good

先说说《Section.80》这张专辑

Lil Nas X

The title, “Poe Man’s Dreams,” is a play on the southern pronunciation of ‘poor,’ but also alludes to the classic American writer Edgar Allan Poe. Poe’s cause of death in 1849 was inconclusive, but many historians suspect he died of symptoms related to alcohol poisoning. In this sense, he gave in to his vice, which led to his early demise.

Edgar Allan Poe was famous for moving away from romanticism in his work. Instead, he constructed concepts based on realistic or sometimes horrific situations that many literary analysts believe reflected his life. Kendrick Lamar and GLC do the same thing here, rapping about real-life situations.

Kendrick touches on such themes as giving in to peer pressure or bad habits. This track also sounds similar to Kanye West’s February 2004 track, “Spaceship,” which appears on his first album, The College Dropout—another song which features GLC.

Smoke good, eat good, live good

Since my uncles was institutionalized My intuition had said I was suited for family ties

Stand for something or fall for anything And you working with two left feet at the skating rink

Alexander HamiltonIf you don’t stand for something, you’ll fall for anything. Martin Luther King, Jr.A man who hasn’t found something he is willing to die for is not fit to live. Dr. Dre也曾在1997年的《Been There, Done That.》里使用了这句话
